Gun-for-hire. ...I like "Mercenary," I.e. Gun-for-hire. This word has recently become quaint as it has been subducted* by the much less sinister, "contractor." A contractor is the guy who comes in and fixes your house, or does the work you can't get to, because you are busy doing the fun stuff. Like killing your enemies.
